German Alfaro

Director General, Greenplants

German Alfaro is an agronomist from EARTH University with Postgraduate Degree in Management Mindset from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Commercial manager of GOLF courses in the Pacific area of Costa Rica from 1999 to 2001 and Commercial Technical Executive in agricultural farms in the northern and Caribbean zone of Costa Rica from 2002 to 2004 with Trisan Group.

In 2004, Alfaro became the Head of the commercial operation of fertilizers of Brenntag in Costa Rica for 6 year after which his responsibility grew to the whole Central American and Caribbean and included the operation of 3 Fertilizer Formulation Plants in the Region and the Research and Commercial Development Team.

From 2015 on, Alfaro has been the General Director of Greenplants, an American Vanguard Corporation company leading innovation in plant nutrition with sales in 17 countries. He has led research and development teams on plant nutrition and has developed leading fertilizer formulation technologies. He is a specialist in the interpretation of Plant Physiology as a technology driver and gives classes on climate change and its impact on agriculture from the perspective of fertilization. He has publications about the history, present and future expectations of the local, regional and global fertilizer market in agribusiness related magazines because he is a reference in the plant nutrition segment of the agricultural activity in the Region.

In 2020, Alfari was chosen as the Global Leader of the AMVAC Micronutrient and Biostimulation Team  with the goal of strengthening the impact of the company in the nutritional segment and most recently he developed a new branch of business called Greenplants Raw Materials that is specialized in sourcing the inputs for top liquid fertilizer formulations.
